If you have ever been to a fan convention, panels are one of the hottest things. We get to sit and watch some of our favorite people talk about some of our favorite things. How awesome is that?

I had an absolute blast doing panels last year. I think I did about 7? 7 live panels in 3 days. Whew, it was exhausting. But it was great because I was getting to fangirl and talk about something other than my book... Because, don't get me wrong, I love my books, but at the end of the day it just feels obnoxious talking about them all the time, right?
Panels give you a chance to talk about stuff other than your book (I mean, you can mention your book, especially if it works organically. I did.)
And the reality is that even if we aren't a big name like J.K Rowling, we are still considered experts. Readers love meeting new authors. They love hearing people who love to talk about books as much as they do. And if they like you, then they will want to give your book a try. It's true. Psychologically we look for people who are like us (or who we want to be like) when making a decision about what to buy. That is why the most common way readers find new books is through recommendations from friends.
